Biography
Stefania Palmieri holds a PhD in Industrial Design. She is Associate professor at the Department and School of Design of Politecnico di Milano.
During her many years of research and teaching activity, she has progressively developed a particular focus on the training of multidisciplinary skills.
The focus is placed on a methodological path that leads to the acquisition of knowledge preparatory to design, learning and application of techniques and methods for reading and interpreting the product system and the context of use in which they are inserted. The aim is to lead students to adopt an approach aimed on the one hand at identifying people's needs and realising a project centred on real needs, and on the other at creating opportunities for dialogue between students, companies and Italian design professionals. It aims to create an all-round collaboration network with the world of production, aimed at strengthening and stabilising the synergies between University and Enterprise for teaching purposes.
She is the supervisor of first level and master's theses from which patents, including international ones, have resulted. She tutors doctoral theses in industrial design.
In recent years, she has approached the issues of multidisciplinarity and synergy of knowledge, in a scenario of interaction and multi-sensoriality in which design places complexity and transdisciplinarity at the centre of its research, to generate proactive and innovative models of basic and applied research.
She is interested in issues concerning the relationship between universities and businesses and how this union can bring innovation both in teaching models and in organisations, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises.
For the Department and the School of Design she covers various management and support roles for institutional activities. Her management activity aims to create a network of collaboration with the productive world at 360°, aimed at enhancing and stabilising the synergies between the University and Business for teaching.
Since its foundation, she has been a member of the Scientific Committee of the EDME laboratory, an interdepartmental laboratory of the Politecnico di Milano that was set up with the aim of bringing together knowledge and skills from different polytechnic fields, such as Design, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering and Electronic Engineering, dealing with digital technologies, immersivity, new relations and knowledge synergies.
