Trusted assertions - reliable connections between ORCID iDs and other persistent identifiers - are critical to our strategic goal of empowering researchers, promoting transparency, and enabling innovation. But not all PIDs are created equal! This post explains our requirements for identifiers in the ORCID Registry, why meeting these requirements benefits the research community, and how member organizations can request the addition of new identifiers.

The first project on our 2018 roadmap is around sharing information - establishing new and enhanced ways for researchers to share funding information. One way we hope to achieve this is by enabling ORCID users to proactively grant permission to some or all ORCID members to update their record. Our new Permissions Pre-Authorization Technical Working Group will help us assess the options and recommend a solution.

ORCID is in the process of adding new ways to connect people with the organizations they work with. It will soon be possible to connect ORCID iDs with a wider range of professional affiliations, including society memberships, certifications, honors, prizes, and more.

Expanding Affiliations: Calling for Community Comment

ORCID records support two connection types between researchers and organizations: education and employment. The community has been asking ORCID to support more. We are therefore proposing the addition of two new types, and request your feedback by November 20.
