In January 2016, a group of eight associations and publishers led by eLife, PLOS, and The Royal Society, launched an open letter committing their organizations to requiring ORCID iDs for (at a minimum) corresponding authors of accepted papers and inviting other organizations to do the same. One year on, how successful has this initiative been?

We are delighted to announce that, with the recent addition of University of Tsukuba, Japan now has 10 ORCID member organizations, a mix of universities, national research institutes, funders, scholarly societies, and system vendors.
