ORCID makes itself accountable to the community through our principles, business model, governance, how we handle disputes, and how we involve and engage our users and members. We need to remain open – both in terms of access to the identifiers and associated data, and in terms of continuance of operations. ORCID adoption is picking up steam in New Zealand, where a group of Universities, Crown Research Institutes, independent research organisations and key government funding agencies recently issued a joint statement of principles supporting the adoption and use of ORCID identifiers. ORCID is now widely integrated in manuscript submission systems for journals. We are now starting to work on embedding ORCID in book publication processes. To explore options, we’ve formed a working group on ORCID in book publishing – and we would like your input.

ORCID record holders now have even greater control over who sees what – and how. Our latest release enables you to set the visibility for each item in your personal data, including other names by which you are known, country, keywords, website links, and identifiers from other systems. You can also choose the order of items displayed in each section, as well as see when the data was added and by whom. Learn more about this new functionality.

ORCID publisher member Hindawi is is one of the world’s largest publishers of peer-reviewed fully open access journals. In this guest blog post, Chief Process Engineer Craig Raybould and Process Manager Luke Alexander Prescott, give a brief overview of how and why they have been encouraging their authors to get and use an iD - and, as signatories of the ORCID publishers open letter, have now decided to require iDs for corresponding authors.
