ORCID for Consortia

ORCID consortia are fundamental to our mission. To be successful at building national and regional communities of practice that support a global open research infrastructure, we need the commitment of our consortia members and their lead organizations.

The ORCID consortia program grew out of our Adoption and Integration project, carried out in 2013-14 and funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.  Launched in November 2014, the goal of our consortia program is to to foster communities of practice that can apply ORCID services and resources in regional and national contexts, using global implementation standards. ORCID consortia – groups of five or more not-for-profit organizations – receive deep membership fee discounts, in return for taking responsibility for consortium administration, governance, and community engagement.

There are ORCID consortia in every region: a full list can be found on our membership page. Each consortium appoints a lead organization, whose role is to catalyze the adoption of ORCID in their community, including:

  • providing administrative support to their consortium
  • managing and supporting the onboarding of consortium members
  • employing dedicated community management staff
  • developing shared resources, communication materials and events
  • maintaining consortium document repositories
  • working with the consortium community to identify goals, develop policy and governance, and establish regular progress reporting to members and ORCID
