As we approach on fifth anniversary on October 16, it’s a good time to reflect on how far ORCID has come. We couldn’t have done it without the support of numerous individuals and organizations across the scholarly communications community. To celebrate [email protected], this month we will be reporting on our progress in three key sectors: funders, publishers, and – in this post – research institutions.

On October 16 ORCID will be five! Help us celebrate by sharing ORCID videos, photos, or anecdote; by exploring our new education and outreach resources; and, above all, by helping us increase the number of ORCID iDs and - crucially - connections to those iDs!

This post is a Chinese translation of a recent article, "Ten reasons to get - and use - an ORCID iD! " written by ORCID Director of Community and Engagement Alice Meadows.

About one year ago, Crossref, DataCite and ORCID announced a joint initiative to launch and sustain an open, independent, non-profit organization identifier registry to facilitate the disambiguation of researcher affiliations. Today we publish governance recommendations and product principles and requirements for the creation of an open organization identifier registry and invite community feedback.

To celebrate Peer Review Week 2017, we organized a webinar on the ORCID peer review functionality, now available to all members using ORCID API 2.0. We presented statistics on the uptake of peer review on ORCID records, and invited four members to share how they were - or will be - using the peer review functionality in their systems.

It's two years since we launched our peer review functionality, which has been implemented by a small number of early adopters. It's now available to all ORCID members using our new API 2.0 and we are happy to share with you some analysis of uptake to date. This post is based on data that was first shared at the Eighth International Peer Review Congress in Chicago (September 10-12, 2017).

At ORCID, we are committed to enabling recognition of peer review in all its forms. Annotation is increasingly being used as a type of peer review, both pre- and post-publications, and today's post by Heather Staines, Director of Partnerships at ORCID member Hypothesis, explains more about what it is and why it's important.
