Biography
Enrique Cano Suñén holds dual doctoral degrees in Architecture and Industrial Engineering. He currently serves as Deputy Director of Infrastructure and Sustainability at the School of Engineering and Architecture (EINA) of the University of Zaragoza. His career combines research, teaching, and management in the fields of architectural design, building engineering, complex systems, and technology applied to the built environment. Together with colleagues from the HowLab group (I3A – University of Zaragoza), he develops the concept of SBE (Smart Building Environment), aimed at an integrated and ecological understanding of intelligent buildings.
A a specialist in building sustainability, data-driven and performance-based design, as well as the implementation of IoT and AI systems in buildings. His work focuses on developing intelligent and situated methodologies for transforming the built environment in the context of the Anthropocene. He leads projects related to the Smart Campus initiative and the generation of architectural knowledge from real-time data in university buildings.
A trail runner and marathoner, he understands architecture, engineering, and ecology not as abstract theories but as ways of being in the world—attuned to rhythms, relationships, and the limits of both the body and the planet. His approach blends critical thinking, lived experience, and technological innovation to imagine more conscious, open, and connected ways of inhabiting.
