Biography
Dr. Luis J. Fernandez received the MSc degree in Physics at the Univeristy of Zaragoza (Spain) in 2001. Then he joined the Transducers Science and Technology department at Twente Univeristy (The Netherlands) where he obtained the PhD degree in 2005 for the development of MEMS based power sensor for radio frequency signals. During the next 5 years he was involved in the development of low cost Micro Total Analysis Systems (TAS), microfluidic control elements and biosensors at CIC micro GUNE/IK4- Ikerlan Research Institute (Spain), becoming a formal partner of the centre. In 2010 he received the “Ramon y Cajal Fellowship” to join the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and lead scientific advances in the field of microfluidic devices for diagnostic and cell culture applications.
Luis Fernandez is currently Associate Professor at the University of Zaragoza, and CTO of Microliquid S.L., a company dedicated to the development and manufacturing of microfluidic devices for diagnostic and drug delivery applications.
He is also co-founder of the company BEONCHIP, dedicated to the commercialization of cell culture biomimetic devices based on microfluidics, and partner of EBERS MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY dedicated to the development and commercialization of tissue engineering and organ preservation equipment. Dr Fernandez has published 43 scientific papers with SCI, holds 25 patents (11 of them licensed or under exploitation) and 3 know-how transfers.
