Biography
Dr. Hussam J. Khasawneh is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and currently serves as the Assistant to the President for Industry Partnerships at Al Hussein Technical University (HTU), Jordan. He leads strategic initiatives that strengthen the collaboration between academia and industry, with an emphasis on workforce development and technological innovation.
Dr. Khasawneh received his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015 from The Ohio State University (OSU), USA, after earning an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from OSU and a B.Sc. in Mechatronics Engineering from The University of Jordan. He holds certifications as an ISO Energy Management Systems Lead Auditor and as a Trainer of Trainers (ToT) in Renewable Power-to-X technologies and Green Hydrogen.
Prior to joining HTU, he was a faculty member at The University of Jordan (2015–2021), where he contributed significantly to research and education in Mechatronics Engineering. He has held prominent administrative positions, including serving as Jordan’s National Secretary for IAESTE, where he promoted global student exchange in technical disciplines.
Dr. Khasawneh's research expertise includes renewable energy systems, energy efficiency, IoT-enabled energy monitoring, and sustainability. He has actively contributed to international collaborations through platforms such as the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) and PRIMA, facilitating partnerships between Europe and the Middle East in sustainable technology development.
His research has received notable recognition, including a prestigious Newton-Khalidi Fund Researchers Links Workshop Grant in 2019 and funding from the Royal Academy of Engineering for the SMARTEE project, which advanced IoT-based energy efficiency in industry. Additionally, his insights have reached global scientific audiences through contributions published as a letter in Science and correspondence in Nature.
Beyond academia, Dr. Khasawneh's leadership roles have extended into executive management, notably as CEO of Jordan’s National Center for Innovation (NCI), and through influential governmental positions within the Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST). These roles have allowed him to significantly influence policy, industry practices, and the broader landscape of sustainability and green growth in the region.
