Biography
Louis Chauvel is Full Professor of Sociology and Population Studies at the University of Luxembourg. He also serves as the Director of the Institute for Research on Socio-Economic Inequality (IRSEI) since 2012, and he heads the Doctoral Program in Social Sciences. His primary areas of research expertise encompass the dynamics of inequality, social change by generations and birth cohorts, as well as social and public health and population dynamics. Dr. Chauvel is widely recognized for his investigations into middle-class stability, the sustainability of social policies, and the profound impact of income and wealth disparities on social development and individual well-being, including factors such as health and overall quality of life. His work has been featured in renowned scholarly journals, including the European Sociological Review, Social Forces, Higher Education, Social Indicators Research, among others. Additionally, Dr. Chauvel has authored three books delving into the topics of generations and middle classes.
