Personal information

Biography

Dr. Romaní is graduated in Agricultural Technical Engineering (2005) and in Food Science and Technology (2007) at University of Vigo (UVIGO). In 2011, she received her PhD degree by the UVIGO with a “cum laude” distinction, being awarded an Extraordinary Prize. The candidate started her Postdoc research funded by FCT-Portugal (2012-2015) and I2C-Xunta de Galicia (2015-2016) fellowships at the Centre of Biological Engineering (University of Minho-UMINHO, Portugal). In September 2016, she started an Assistant Researcher position at the UMINHO. Since the applicant completed her doctorate, she has gained multidisciplinary national and international post-doctoral research experience at different top-high research institutions in Spain and Portugal and in collaboration with research groups from Japan, Mexico, Brazil and Belgium.
Through these years her research activities were supported by prestigious and competitive programs in several institutions, covering disciplines from Energy and Fuels to Environmental Engineering. She has notably contributed to second-generation bioethanol production that is paving the way for the development of efficient biorefineries. Therefore, she has contributed to the knowledge working in the following 3 areas:

i) Residue valorization;
ii) Development of Sustainable Processes for Biomass Fractionation;
iii) Biocatalysts for bioconversion of biomass fractions into biofuels and bio-
based products.

From 2015, 4 PhD theses were defended under her orientation and she has been PI of 5 of projects: 3 national (202,250 €), 1 from the Autonomic Community (115,000 €) and 1 from the UVigo (5000 €). She is included in Top 2% of the most cited scientist worldwide (Ranking carried out by Stanford University, 2021 and 2022). hindex=35, JCR articles=77.
