Biography

Rifat Ahmmed Aoni is a Research Fellow at RMIT University, Australia. He received his PhD degree at the Department of Electronic Materials Engineering (EME), The Australian National University, Australia in 2021. He received his M.Eng.Sc degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Malaya, Malaysia in January 2016 and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering from Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology, Bangladesh in September 2012. He also worked as a Research Assistant (2.5 years) on a project entitled "Integrated Photonics for Biosensor" at the University of Malaya, Malaysia.

His research interest focuses on Integrated Optics, Nanophotonics, Dielectric/ Plasmonic Metasurfaces, Optical Sensors, Photonic Crystal Fiber, and Optical Devices. He has strong Optical/ Photonic device modeling expertise with CST Microwave Studio, Lumerical, COMSOL Multiphysics, and RCWA Softwares. Also, he has strong nanofabrication (metallic/ dielectric) expertise using Electron Beam Lithography (EBL). He has also strong experience in developing free-space optical setups for diffraction measurement, optical imaging, microfluidic sensing, transmission measurement, and so on.

To date, he has published 4 Book Chapters and over 40 peer-reviewed journal articles and received 2,600+ citations with h-index citations 26. He has received several prestigious awards including SPIE Optics and Photonics Education Scholarships 2018, travel grants (6 times), best presentation awards (2 times), and so on. He is serving as a scientific reviewer for the European grant proposals, guest editor, and 40+ different journals and reviewed 130+ journal articles. He is an active member of OSA, SPIE, IEEE, AOS, and ANN.
