Biography
Director General at CIRCE - Centre of Research of Energy Resources and Consumption - University of Zaragoza (SPAIN). Since April 2016.
Lecturer of the Electrical Department at Zaragoza University from 1994 to 2018.
Spanish expert in the FP7 Energy committee, in charge of the coordination of the Spanish position related to grid aspects.
He is in charge of the Unit for Innovation and Promotion, created in May 2009 by him, with the main objective of internationalising CIRCE’s activities towards Europe, through its Brussels Delegation. Nowadays, it is also focused on reinforcing the relationships with American countries.
Since January 2011 to April 2016 he was the Executive Director at CIRCE.
Since June 2009 to December 2010 he was the Deputy Director at CIRCE.
Since June 2001 to June 2009 he was the Director of the Electrical Division of CIRCE. Four Research Areas compose this Division: Electrical Substations, Electrical Power Systems, Renewable Energy Integration and Renewable Energy Resource’s Analysis. During this period he managed a budget of 3 M$/year distributed in more than 30 research and demonstration projects.
Since March 2007 to March 2009 he was Director of Institutional Relationships of the Engineering Polytechnical Centre of the Zaragoza University. He was dedicated to increase the relationships between local and national industries and Institutions with the University. During that period, more than 400 students per year enjoyed an internship and more than 50 students per year were hired by national companies.
He achieved his Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Centre of the Zaragoza University in 1994. He studied the grid impact of electronic power sources and passive methods to increase the power quality for sources in the range of several kilowatts. Due to this research he earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Zaragoza University in 2000.
Since December 1994 to May 2001 he was assistant professor at the Electrical Engineering Department. In June 2001 he became a Lecturer at the abovementioned Department of the Zaragoza University, where he develops his teaching activities. He has taught electricity fundamentals, electrical machines, power electronics, wind energy and renewable energy grid integration topics.
