Biography
Dr. Fred Awaah (Accra, March 1976), is a member of the faculty of Management Studies, University of Professional Studies – Accra. He has written one book, over thirty peer-reviewed journal articles ( 25 Scopus indexed), seven book chapters, four technical reports, and three conference proceedings. He has to his credit over 50 international conferences and over 80 newspaper articles. Fred is noted for collaborative research, especially within the African region. His studies gravitate around higher education management, public administration, entrepreneurship and ICT education.
Dr Awaah had previously helped with the work of the education divisions of the African Union, European Union, Association of African Universities(AAU), UNESCO, DAAD, Institute of African Culture and International Understanding, Trust Africa, MasterCard Foundation, and many African governments in both consulting and non-consulting positions. Specifically, Fred has delivered invited lectures at Botho University (Botswana and Lesotho) as a consultant for the Association of African Universities/SIDA. He has also delivered lectures at Crawford University (Nigeria) as a consultant to the AAU/ECOWAS. He served in a consulting position as a member of the joint European Union/African Union Tuning Africa Policy Advisory Group from 2013 to 2016.
Fred graduated with Distinction in his first doctoral studies (Public Administration) and currently reviews journal manuscripts for many reputable journals including the Journal of Student Affairs in Africa, Journal of Entrepreneurship in Emerging Economies, Social Sciences and Humanities Open, Cogent Business and Management, International Journal of Learning, Teaching and Educational Research, Journal of Business & Professional Studies and the Journal of Economic and Administrative Sciences.
Fred's hallmark academic appearances include being panellist at the launch of the Africa Union's Agenda 2063, Adis Ababa Ethiopia; keynote speaker at the Africa Progress Group's round table on Making Africa's Population an Asset, Abeoukuta Nigeria; visiting scholar at the instance of ECOWAS/SIDA/AAU to Botho University ( Botswana and Lesotho) and Crawford University, Nigeria; speaker on social identities and their effects on community work at the 7th Millennium Campus Conference - Millennium Campus Network at the United Nations, New York, USA; Panelist on Equity and Access in Higher Education in Africa- The Africa Higher Education Summit - Trust Africa, Dakar Senegal; Guest Facilitator- 2nd African Students’ Leadership & Capacity Building Training -Port Harcourt, Nigeria organised by the Association of African Universities.
Before mainstream academia, Fred had served as Secretary General (Head of Mission) of the All-Africa Students Union (AASU) within which time he led very progressive initiatives for the organisation including instituting the annual Africa Students and Youth Summit, the enrolment of staff on the government payroll, purchase of saloon cars for all resident officers of the Union, stimulating staff to enrol for Master programmes, and ensuring visibility for the organisation with other reputable organisations including the UN system, EU, AU, AAU, UNESCO amongst others. He also served as the representative of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) to the AASU, representative of NUGS to Ghana's Students Loan Trust Fund, representative of NUGS to Ghana's Constitutional Review Coalition, Ghana's representative to the Common Wealth Students Association, Vice President of the Students Representative Council of the University of Professional Studies - Accra (UPSA), and founding President of the Association of Business Administration Students ( UPSA).
