Biography
Betty Kim, MD, PhD holds the academic rank of Professor of Neurosurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Kim has multiple federally-funded research including NIH/NINDS (R01) and Department of Defense Breakthrough grant and has achieved publication in numerous high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Reviews Immunology and Nature Reviews Drug Discovery.
As a Physician Scientist, Dr. Kim’s laboratory takes a multidisciplinary approach to the research of solid tumors with a specific focus on malignant primary and metastatic brain tumors. Dr. Kim’s lab is interested in understanding the molecular cross-talk that occurs between tumor and stromal cells within the tumor microenvironment, while also developing novel therapeutic strategies to inhibit tumorigenesis. Her current research primarily focuses on finding new ways to promote immune recognition of glioma cells in order to boost the efficacies of cancer immunotherapies. Her group also pursues the identification of predictive and prognostic biomarkers for personalized medicine in the context of brain tumors.
She is an elected member of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.
