Biography

Konca Şaher is currently Assoc. Prof. at Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department at Kadir Has University, İstanbul. Her research interests include room and building acoustics, auralizations, public address system design, noise management in mega-events and sustainable design. She was also Senior Expert to EU Project: Technical Assistance for Implementation Capacity for the Environmental Noise Directive in Turkey. Konca is also a licensed BREEAM International Assessor and member of Institute of Acoustics.

Prior to joining the academy, between 2007 and 2013, Konca worked as a Principal Acoustic Consultant in London office at Atkins, one of the world’s leading design and engineering consultancy. She was involved in prominent projects across the Globe including hospitality and leisure, airports, residential developments, large master planning schemes, health care facilities, schools, auditoria, train and metro stations, performing arts spaces, offices and retail. She was the Acoustic Lead for London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games Temporary Venues. Her scope of work included architectural and environmental acoustic assessments of London 2012. Konca worked collaboratively with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers and Local Authorities discussing and agreeing project objectives.

Konca received her Bachelor degree in Architecture (1998) and Master of Science degree in Building Science (2001) from Middle East Technical University, Ankara. She earned her PhD degree in Acoustics in 2013 at Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. She also visited Acoustic Technology Department at Technical University of Denmark between 2005 and 2006 as Marie Curie fellow where she worked on room acoustic modelling and auralizations.
