Biography

Dr. Ying received a BSc (1997) in Mathematics from Zhejiang University (formally Hangzhou University) and a Ph.D. (2002) in Mathematics from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. He is currently a professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SUNY Albany. Before that, he was an assistant professor in computer science at the University of Exeter, UK. He did his postdoctoral training in machine learning at the City University of Hong Kong, University College London, and the University of Bristol. His research interests include statistical learning theory, machine learning, optimization, and mathematics of data science.
