Biography
With a background in piano and law, Giannangelo is a Doctoral Researcher in AI Ethics and Law at the University of Bologna, an associated researcher at the National Research Council – Institute for Educational Technologies [CNR-ITD], a board member of Hypex, an Italian EdTech start-up with an international patent, and a manager of various international organizations active in the fields of education and research in Italy and Germany. With a solid knowledge of English, he collaborates in project design with a portfolio of partners, including over a hundred universities, research centres, non-profit organizations, and companies at the national and international level. A generalist designer with a strong inclination for R&I concepts, he is a project manager for more than 50 European projects. He has led the drafting and implementation of projects funded by the European Space Agency [ESA], the European Commission, the Italian Ministry of Culture, and the Italian Ministry of Economic Development, specializing in EdTech projects based on the integration of emerging technologies such as Machine Learning and Generative AI, holding roles as PM, Researcher, and Data Protection Officer [DPO]. An academic trainer on principles and techniques of design, he has held a research scholarship since November 1, 2024, at the University of Bologna “Alma Mater Studiorum” for a PhD in “Learning Sciences and Digital Technologies.”
After earning a diploma in piano from the Conservatory of Monopoli in 2007 and a Master's degree in Law from the University of Bari in 2012, he began his career in 2013 as a financial analyst at the Milan offices of BNP Paribas and Mediolanum banking groups. In 2015, he left Milan after being selected by the Ministry of Justice for a two-year training internship in the judiciary, ex d.l. 69/2013, art. 73, following a merit-based evaluation of his academic career, and assumed this role at the Court of Bari, Civil Section I. Since 2019, he has served as a consultant for Hypex, an EdTech start-up and tech culture company with a patent recognized in Italy and the USA, becoming a board member in 2021 and driving the startup to rank among the top 16 Italian companies in 2022 and the top 3 tech culture companies in 2023, according to a ranking by Fortune Italia. In January 2021, he obtained certification as a Data Protection Officer from the University of Derby [UK] and deepened his expertise in Data Governance, GDPR, and data architectures. In June 2021, he joined the European program “Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs,” receiving a community grant to enhance his managerial skills abroad. He moved to Berlin, where he spent 9 months working with a German design studio, Eufrak Euroconsults GmbH, refining his entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of English and German. Since February 2022, he has been Head of Design at Mine Vaganti NGO, an Italian social enterprise with a track record of over 250 European projects funded in education, research, and sports, and a board member of Nest Berlin NGO, a German non-profit organization focused on inclusion, education, and sustainability. In December 2023, he was awarded a research grant following a competitive selection at CNR-ITD, collaborating on the development of an ethical and legal methodological framework for the design and deployment of automated systems for the generation and analysis of synthetic data, as well as behavioral and curricular profiling in advanced and gamified educational contexts involving ICT and Artificial Intelligence.
