Biodata

Dr. Amir MAHDAVI ZAFARGHANDI received his B.A. in English Translation from Allameh Tabatabaei University, Tehran, Iran, M.A. in English Language Teaching from Tehran University, Tehran, Iran, and his PhD in Second Language Acquisition from Essex University, Colchester, Essex, U.K.

He started his full time career as a faculty member of English department at University of Guilan in 1991. After two years of teaching undergraduate students of English Language Teaching, he was given a grant by the Ministry of Higher Education to pursue his further study in SLA at Essex University. After graduation, he returned to University of Guilan, resuming his academic career. During these years he has been teaching undergraduate students of English and Translation, and graduate students of TEFL and Translation Studies.

He had been a Member of Board of Directors of TELLSI (Teachers of English Language and Literature Society of Iran) from 2009 to 2012. He had also served as the Member of Humanities Academic Evaluation Committee of Unviersity of Guilan from 2004 to 2006. He is the Member of Academic Evaluation Committee of English Department. He is the Member of IAOT (Iranian Association of Official Translators), and an ATIO Member and Certified Translator. He has been the Member of Guilan Academic Examiners Board for Azad University Recruiting English Instructors for five years (from 2006 to 2011).

He has taught English at the University of Tehran during his graduate study, University of Guilan, Islamic Azad Universities, and Rahman Institute of Higher Education. He offers courses in Applied Linguistics, Research Methods, ESP and Translation Studies. He has been the supervisor and adviser of fifty M.A. and PhD theses.

He has co-authored four books as follows:

Dr. Amir MAHDAVI ZAFARGHANDI has translated two books: the first book ‘Umbrella of US Power” by Noam Chomsky, and the second book “Electronic Tools for Translators” by F. Austermuhel, co-translated by him and Golavar, Ebrahim.
