Biography
Jonathan E. Cohen MD, PhD is a physician-researcher and head of clinical research at the Sharett Institute of Oncology, Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center.
He is a senior medical oncologist, specializing in melanoma and cancer immunotherapy and is also a member of the gastro-intestinal medical oncology team. Dr. Cohen has extensive experience employing cancer-immunotherapy including cellular therapies and handling their toxicities. Dr. Cohen is heading development and conduction of the clinical program for adoptive cell therapy.
As head of clinical research, Dr. Cohen is expanding research at all phases with a specific emphasis on early phase studies. His goal is to make cutting edge treatments available for Hadassah patients while further establishing the Sharett Institute as a center of excellence attracting established pharmaceutical companies, local start-ups and serving as a location to test new technologies stemming from local research. Dr. Cohen serves as principal investigator on several clinical trials.
Dr. Cohen holds a PhD in neuroscience and leads a research group investigating various aspects of cancer immunology. A main research topic combines his passion for oncology and neuroscience looking into the immunological response in brain metastases. Additional areas of investigation include (1) Brain-targeted peptide-drug immune-modulators (2) Cellular therapy for solid tumors: adoptive cell therapy and T cell engineering and (3) Cancer cell-based vaccines.
Dr. Cohen is a faculty member at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and is involved in many teaching activities.
