Biography
René Eduardo Jara Reyes (b. Santiago, 1982) is a Chilean journalist and political scientist (PhD, University of Grenoble Alpes) currently serving as Associate Professor at the University of Santiago de Chile's School of Journalism. His interdisciplinary research examines the intersection of political journalism, public space, and electoral processes through a Southern critical lens, combining political science, sociology, and historical analysis with media studies. As principal investigator of competitively funded projects (Fondecyt Iniciación 11170421; Fondo de Estudios del Pluralismo 210021), he has published his works in journals including International Journal of Communication, Brazilian Journalism Research, and El Profesional de la Información, alongside contributions to major reference works by Zed Books, Palgrave, and Springer. Currently leading the Fondecyt Regular project (1250610, 2025-2027) "Autonomy and Heteronomy in the Microcosm of Native Digital Media," Dr. Jara Reyes investigates the transformative impact of digital-native platforms on journalistic practices and democratic discourse in Latin America.
