Biography

An experienced Researcher/faculty with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microbial Genomics from the Department of Health Technology and Informatics, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, earned in 2020. He also obtained a postgraduate diploma in Vaccinology from Pasteur Institute, Paris, France (2013), Master of Science Degree in Tropical and Infectious Diseases (2010) and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) (2006), respectively from Addis Ababa University. A demonstrated working Knowledge in microbial genomics with broad laboratory skills required for infectious diseases biology that includes Cell culture, Pathogen Identification, Mycobacteriology, Antibiotic Susceptibility Assay, Nucleic acid extraction, PCR (mPCR), RT-PCR, Spoligotyping, MIRU-VNTR, Next Generation Sequencing (Illumina and Nanopore sequence), Sanger sequencing, Gene expression, Genetic Engineering and Functional Genomics, and Bioinformatics, Immunological techniques that are applied to both humoral and cellular immune response including, PBMC isolation, whole blood gamma interferon assay, ELispot assay, ELISA, FACS). Supervised and coached the research activities of graduate students who successfully completed their studies. His research interests are antimicrobial resistance, microbial pathogenesis, microbiome, and drug and vaccine development using multidisciplinary approaches such as Genomics and Genetic engineering
