Biography
I have expertise in pathogen genomics, bioinformatics, and global public health. As Public Health Research and Engagement Lead at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, I foster international collaborations across research, public health, and policy sectors to advance genomic surveillance. I lead strategic initiatives in research, training, and knowledge transfer, ensuring scientific findings drive public health impact. I spearhead the Community of Practice for Cholera Genomics, promoting data-driven approaches to cholera management. I also design and deliver advanced pathogen genomics bioinformatics training for global partners, strengthening bacterial genomic surveillance capacity across multiple countries. These efforts support epidemiological tracking, antimicrobial resistance monitoring, and vaccine impact assessment. Previously, I was a Senior Bioinformatician and Postdoctoral Researcher at Sanger, studying the genomic epidemiology of bacterial infections causing meningitis and respiratory diseases in LMICs. I completed my DPhil and postdoctoral training at Oxford, researching hepatitis B virus drug and vaccine resistance and immune responses to fractional yellow fever vaccine doses. I advise WHO and PHA4GE and mentor emerging African leaders in genomics and public health.
