Biography
The title of the Master of Arts in Philosophy, specialisation: pedagogy, sub-specialisations: catechetics and childcare education, obtained at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Society of Jesus in Cracow (at present Ignatianum University in Cracow) in 1995. Master’s thesis entitled “Educational Results and the Pace of Physical Development of Adolescents as Exemplified by Eight Year Students” written under the supervision of Prof. Władysław Kubik, PhD, and assessed as very good.
The degree of the Doctor of Philosophy in Humanities, specialisation: pedagogy, obtained on 19th April 2007 by the Council of the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University (UJ) in Cracow based on the dissertation: “Theoretical Basis and Creative Practical Inspirations of Maria Montessori’s Pedagogical System in Preschool and Early School Education in Poland and Italy”, written under the supervision of Prof. Stanisław Palka, PhD (UJ). The advisors of the dissertation were: Prof. Marian Śnieżyński, PhD (Pedagogical University in Cracow) and the Prof. of UJ Joanna Danilewska, PhD.
The doctoral dissertation (after taking into account the changes resulting from the advisors’ suggestions) was published as: Surma B., 2008, Montessori Pedagogy – Theoretical Basis and Creative Inspirations in Practice, Palatum, Łódź, p. 220. ISBN 978-83-927276-0-6 (it was not taken into account in the description of accomplishments).
In 2018, she obtained a post-doctoral degree in social sciences in the field of pedagogy at the University of Lodz.
