Biography
Bachelor and PhD in Materials Physics from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1988 and 1992, respectively. My doctoral thesis, carried out at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales), was focused on the study of magnetic properties and applications of ferromagnetic amorphous wires (extraordinary award, academic year1991/1992). After a postdoc stay at the Institute of Applied Magnetism (IMA-UCM) and as Assistant Professor at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), I joined the Public University of Navarre (UPNA) as Associated Professor in 1995, obtaining the position of Full Professor in the area of Applied Physics in 2011. I have been recognized with five 6-year research periods (CNEAI), the last 2013-2018, and one 6-year Knowledge Transfer and Innovation period.
My research activity has been mainly focused on the magnetic properties and applications of magnetic materials, including the study of magnetic nanoparticles and the design of magnetic sensors and actuators for different technological fields. I am co-author of more than 150 papers published in international journals of the JCR (Journal Citation Reports) and 4 patents. I am currently member of the IEEE Magnetics Society Technical Committee (TC) and member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Alloys and Compounds. I have been actively participating in scientific events, with about 30 contributions to scientific conferences and workshops within the last 10 years and as member of the scientific committees (i.e. Program committee of the International Conference of Magnetism ICM 2015 and Magnetism and Magnetic Materials MMM 2017). I have participated in different national and international projects directly related to the study of nanostructured magnetic materials and their applications. In the last 10 years, I have been the leader of transfer technology projects with technology and industrial agents, focused on the applications of magnetic materials and the development of magnetic devices. Regarding the supervisory experience, I have supervised 3 doctoral thesis (2 currently in-progress) during the last 10-year period. Regarding management activity at the Public University of Navarre, I headed the Physics Department (15/04/2012-01/05/2016), being the director of the Institute of Advanced Materials and Mathematics INAMAT2-UPNA (2019-2022) and currently responsible (research leader) of the research group Physical Properties and Materials Applications.
