Biography
Ian Sinclair is the Principal Consultant with Edge Land Planning. His first job was as a Student Town Planner at Forbes Shire Council in 1984. He then worked for Orange, Wingecarribee and Wollondilly Shires working in both development assessment and strategic planning. After leaving Wollondilly Shire as Strategic Planning Manager in 1998, he started Edge Land Planning.
He has a degree in Town Planning from UNSW and is a Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia.
He is a candidate for a PhD at Western Sydney University where he is investigating the impact of urbanisation (urban and rural residential development) on food supply. This will focus vegetable production which is mostly on the metropolitan fringe and coastal areas, where population growth is causing the contestation.
He was a Part-Time lecturer for 20 years at the University of NSW, Faculty of the Built Environment where he has taught rural planning and strategic planning and has lectured at Macquarie University, University of Wollongong and University of Technology Sydney.
Ian is a regular speaker at Conferences in Australia and has also travelled to the USA and Canada 14 times and has presented at the American Planning Association conference as well as the Royal Town Planning Institute and investigated rural planning issues in many parts of the world.
