Biography
Professor José M. Mascaró Jr. completed his medical studies at the University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain where he obtained his medical degree in 1988. In 1990, after medical school, he began a residency in Dermatology at the Department of Dermatology of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona in Barcelona, Spain. From 1995 to 1997 he did a two-year research fellowship in Immunodermatology at the Department of Dermatology, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, under the direction of Prof. Luis A. Diaz. He is also trained in Dermatopathology, and has the Diploma in Dermatopathology from the International Board of Dermatopathology (2004).
Professor Mascaró Jr. is currently Professor of Dermatology at the University of Barcelona, and Consultant at the Department of Dermatology, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona, Spain. He is in charge of the Dermatology inpatient unit and is also responsible for the autoimmune skin consultation and cutaneous pathology of transplant patients (both solid organ and stem cell transplant) from the Department of Dermatology, Hospital Clínic de Barcelona. He is also responsible for the cutaneous immunofluorescence lab at the Pathology Service of the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.
His main areas of interest and research are autoimmune blistering diseases, connective tissue diseases, cutaneous manifestations of transplant patients and dermatopathology.
