Biography

Dr. Srinivasa Rao Bakshi is Associate Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at India Institute of Technology Madras, India. He has a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Florida International University, USA (2009). He completed his Bachelors (B.E.) and Masters (M.E.) in Metallurgical Engineering from NIT Rourkela (2001) and IISc Bangalore (2003) respectively. His research interests include surface coatings, in situ composites and ultra-high temperature ceramic composites. His research involves powder metallurgy (Mechanical Alloying and Spark Plasma Sintering) and coating techniques (Thermal Spraying and Weld Cladding) and nanomechanical testing. Dr. Bakshi has published 60 papers (having more than 1700 citations) with an h-index of 23, and co-authored a book Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Metal Matrix Composites published by CRC press. He has been active member in several professional societies such as Indian Institute of Metals Chennai Chapter, ASM International Chennai Chapter and The Minerals Metals and Materials Society (TMS) of USA. He has organized several workshops at IIT Madras and International symposiums. He was awarded Certificate of Merit for International Activities by Division of Materials and Processing of Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 2012, Young Professional Award by ASM International Chennai Chapter in 2013 and Young Leader Professional Development Award by TMS of USA in 2014. Recently, he was awarded Institute Research and Development Award (Junior Level) by IIT Madras for 2016.
