Biography
Karin Murris (PhD) is Professor of Early Childhood Education at the University of Oulu (Finland) and Emerita Professor of Education, University of Cape Town (South Africa).
She is a philosopher, child/hood researcher and teacher educator. Grounded in academic philosophy, her particular expertise is researching Early Childhood Education pedagogies enacted in teacher education adopting a post qualitative research paradigm. Karin is Principal Investigator of the Research Council of Finland funded research project Small Matters (2023-2027). She was PI of the Children, Technology and Play project in South Africa in tandem with the University of Sheffield (funded by the LEGO Foundation)(2019-2020) (http://etilab.uct.ac.za/lego) and is also leading the Responsible Innovation in Technology for Children (RITEC) also in South Africa with the University of Sheffield. Karin has led various other externally funded international research projects in the Global North and South, including the South African Decolonising Early Childhood project (2016-2018) and the Postqualitative Research in Higher Education Collective (2021-2023) - both funded by the National Research Foundation of South Africa. Karin is leading the collaboration with Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town for the Global Innovation in Teaching and Learning (GINTL) funded by the Finnish government (2021-2024). She is Chief Editor of a new Routledge series on Postqualitative, New Materialist and Critical Posthumanist Research.
