Biography
CV Melita Kovacevic
Melita Kovacevic is a tenured professor at the Department of Speech and Language Pathology, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Zagreb. She has a research and teaching position at the University of Zagreb. She teaches courses on language development, psycholinguistics and bilingualism, and cognitive psychology. Her scientific interests are psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic research and some aspects of language pathology. Her interest in cognitive neuroscience has been further developed through the established interdisciplinary PhD programme in Language and Cognitive Neuroscience, where she has been programme director since 2013. At the same time, she was the founder and head of the Laboratory for Psycholinguistic Research.
Melita Kovacevic has had a number of shorter and longer study visits at a number of academic institutions in Europe. Asia and the United States. She has also been a visiting professor and lecturer at various European universities and universities around the world. She is the author or co-author of more than 80 scientific papers, she is the author of three books, she has edited four books and she is the author of 25 book chapters.
In 2005, she received a special award from the Rector of the University of Zagreb for developing the field of cognitive neuroscience and contributing to the development of the University. She has established a number of collaborations with research groups from various European universities. Melita Kovacevic has participated in many national and international research and professional projects as PI, collaborator or consultant. Melita Kovacevic was Vice-Rector for Research and Technology at the University of Zagreb from 2006 to 2014. As Vice Rector, she initiated significant changes in the area of research, doctoral training and technology transfer.
Melita Kovacevic has been involved in higher education policy since the beginning of 2000. She has been a member of various national and European bodies related to higher education. She has given more than one hundred and fifty keynote and plenary speeches worldwide. She was a member of the EUA-CDE (European University Association Council for Doctoral Education) Steering Committee (2009-2016) and Chair (2011-2016). She was also a member of the Steering Committee of UNICA (Network of Universities in European Capitals), is currently Vice-President of the PRIDE network (Network of Professionals in Doctoral Education) and a member of the Steering Committee of the EUA-IEP. She has also been a member of the International Policy Board of the National Science Foundation, Georgia, and a member of the International Advisory Board, University of Granada, Spain. Since 2023 she is a member of the Strategic Planning Board of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee (MAB) as well as a research consultant at the Tbilisi Medical Academy, Georgia. From February 2024. Melita Kovacevic is appointed as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) Graduate School.
She has participated in a number of projects related to doctoral training, research capacity, academic leadership and quality assurance in the European Union, South-East Europe, Asia (China, Central Asia) and Africa. She participates individually and as a member of international teams in institutional, programme and agency evaluations (ENQUA panel member and-or chair). Melita Kovacevic has developed or contributed as a team member to a number of strategic and policy papers at institutional or national level. European Commission, World Bank, European University Association, DAAD as well as national agencies and institutions have invited her for cooperation and asked for her expertise in higher education and research.
