Biography
I am a historian trained at the universities of Amsterdam and Heidelberg and at the EUI (Florence). My first specialisation was in German contemporary history, esp. history of ideas. For my doctoral research I majored in early modern European history, with a special focus on the history of imagination and intellectual history. Ever since my doctorate studies at the EUI in Florence, I became intrigued with food history. During the last fifteen years I have been working as a food historian. To my beloved research topics belong the branding history of Specialty Products and the sociocultural history of the truffle in Europe. My work is based on a variety of analytical approaches and strongly relies on archival sources.
