Biography

Professor J S Rana is working as a Professor of Biotechnology in a science and Technology university of Haryana since last 15 years. He has research and teaching experience of 31 years in a university system. During this period, he has extensively worked on different aspects of research including basic agriculture research, bio-rational approaches to crop management and Biotechnological aspects. Over the last 10 years his research focus is on the Bio-nanotechnology
He has a rich international exposure of Post-Doctoral Research in University of East Anglia, Norwich, United Kingdom, George August University, Goetingen, Germany and James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA with different research fellowships viz. Association of Commonwealth Universities, London; Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi- Royal Society London, German Academic Exchange Service, Bonn and American Society for Microbiology, respectively. He has published two books and around107 research papers in various national and international journals of repute. He has been successfully guided 6 post-doctoral research candidates under various schemes of Govt. of India out of which 4 candidates have already completed their research.
He has also guided 12 PhD research scholars out of which, 11 have already completed their degree under his guidance. In addition, he has also guided 30 M.Tech (Biotechnology and Nanotechnology), 4 M. Phil and M.Sc. dissertations each under his guidance. His main areas of research are Animal Biotechnology and Bio-nanotechnology. Presently his group is focusing on biosensor research with thrust on: Electrochemical immunosensor for Quick Detection of HIV Using Nanomaterials; Studies on noval tannase as key diagnostic agent and test indicator for colon cancer among Indian population; Development of dihydrofolate reductase immobilized gold electrode based electrochemical biosensor and its application for folate determination in biological samples; Fabrication of 2D Nanomaterial based Electrochemical Biosensor for the Detection of Biowarfare Agent Botulinum Neurotoxin using Screen Printed Electrode Mapping of genes of Flag leafless mutant of diploid wheat (Triticum monococcum), etc.
He has also contributed as a team leader in framing the course curriculum of various subjects of programme like, M. Tech. Nano Science and Technology; M. Sc. Industrial Microbiology; Choice based credit system course curriculum of M.Sc. Biotechnology at Guru Jambheshwar University Hisar and DCRUST Murthal. All the B.Tech; M.Tech and Ph.D curriculum were also developed during his tenure of Chairperson, Department of Biotechnology. He has also organized 5 conference of International level under his convenorship.
