Biography

Dr. Dave Buenavista is a Professor at Central Mindanao University, Philippines. He earned his Ph.D. in Conservation Biology as a Newton Scholar from Bangor University in Wales, UK for his work on quantitative ethobotany and biocultural conservation. His research focuses on the indigenous food system within the context of achieving the UN SDGs, protecting and conserving indigenous cultures, and biocultural refugia. This includes developing innovative approach in bridging indigenous knowledge and science-based knowledge systems. Apart from rights-based conservation, he also engaged in biodiversity research, particularly on the taxonomy and ecology of flora and fauna in Mindanao.
