In addition to research, he is interested in teaching, which will allow him to serve as a mentor and train the next generation of scientists.
Having experience presenting his work to farmers and a scientific audience greatly improved his ability to communicate his ideas in research and exchange innovative thoughts and concepts. The experience to collaboratively participate in the research design process with farmers and his supervisors to draft and submit scientific research proposals for competitive research grant awards has provided valuable practice in expressing his ideas. The research grant awards offered him a treasured opportunity to increase his efficiency and also gain confidence in research work.
Seeing his research having a direct impact on providing effective solutions to the communities has been incredibly rewarding. The direct applicability of laboratory and field experiments through his research with the community has also served as a strong motivator to pursue a Ph.D. program that would significantly enable him to carry out studies that could bridge the research gaps on pepper crop that plays a major role in the human diet, and as cash crops, it contributes substantially to farmers in Tanzania’s economy through trade in domestic and export markets.
While his experiences as an undergraduate and postgraduate have been diverse, research has unquestionably been the most important and rewarding component of his University education. Committing himself to scientific research has instilled an investigative mindset and a passion for the scientific process and an appreciation for the results of Agricultural research. Research has proven to be a fantastic supplement to his coursework, allowing him to strengthen his conceptual understanding of the material taught in his science lectures and leading to an improvement in his academic performance as he became more involved in research and outreach activities outside of the classroom. Participating in research and the consequent interactions with his peers, supervisors, and senior member at SUA continues to provide him with hard and soft skills that have an advantage in his professional career.
