Biography
Biochemistry Bachelor Degree (2003, UAM) Master Degree in Biochemistry (2006 UCM) and European PhD in Biochemistry (2009 UCM, summa cum laude) based on the study of an essential protein of pulmonary surfactant (SP-B) and its recombinants forms in different membrane environments through multiple techniques (fluorescence spectroscopy, QCM balance, Langmuir balances….).
During PhD program, two terms of three-months (6 months) at the Technical Institute of Lisbon at the University of Lisbon, which allowed an exhaustive fluorescence study was performed in the study of the interactions of two pulmonary surfactant proteins in different membrane compositions within physiologically relevant conditions.
Awarded with an EMBO fellowship (iNanoTech Aarhus Universiry, Denmark 2007) to advace in the knowledge of how protein SP-B interacts with other surfactant proteins and vesicles in immobilized membrane bilayers.
Postdoctoral term: contract funded by the European Union (2010-2014) at the Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas (CSIC) focused on reconstitution of cytomimetic systems whose objective was to advance in the knowledge of the mechanisms of bacterial division and the proteins involved in this process. This purpose was approached through the formation of giant liposomes that encapsulate the desired protein, the environment of the encapsulated proteins was emulated what is found inside the cell, for subsequent analysis by spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy.
The teaching experience acquired at the European University and the publications throughout my pre and postdoctoral stage allowed me to obtain the positive evaluation to the figures of Private University Professor and Hired Doctor Professor (ANECA 2016). I currently teach at the European University of Madrid as a Senior Lecturer in Biochemical Engineering in the Department of Health Sciences. The research merits summarised in this CV have led to the recognition of two six-year research periods by ANECA (2006-20012 and 2013-2018).
Since the beginning of October 2022 I am working as a doctoral collaborating professor at the San Pablo CEU University.
