Biography
Dr. Elena Aréchaga-Ocampo is a Biologist graduated fromBiological Sciences Faculty at the Autonomous University of the Morelos State. She made her undergraduate thesis at the Research Center on Nitrogen Fixation (currently Genomics Science Center [CCG]) of the UNAM in which she worked in plant molecular biology. She have a Master in Science and Ph.D in Molecular Biomedicine at CINVESTAV. She investigated the expression and function of apoptotic proteins in cervical-uterine cancer. From 2008 to 2014 she was Associate Researcher at the National Cancer Institute, initially, she worked in clinical research focused on the response to antineoplastic treatments in lung cancer. According to her observations, she started a line of research based on the use of genomic and molecular biology tools to study the expression and function of microRNAs in tumor cells resistant to radiotherapy. Since January 2014 she is Full Professor-Researcher at Department of Natural Sciences of the UAM Cuajimalpa Unit. At the University, she teaches General Microbiology, Introduction to Molecular Biology, Biochemistry I, Molecular Biology Techniques I, II, III, Cell Biology and Selected Topics. In the Natural Sciences and Engineering Postgraduate (PCNI) she teaches Molecular Biology and Selected topics. SHe has trained 2 Bachelor students, 6 Master in Science students and 2 Ph.D students. She has been an advisor to 10 Masters students and 8 PhD students. She has published 23 research papers, 3 review articles, 8 book chapters, 3 Science Divulgation Research Papers, 2 laboratory manuals and 1 book edition. She has participated in national and international conferences. She has organized the "1st National Symposium on Cancer Oncogenomics and Proteomics" and "the First Conference of Neurosciences in the Framework of Brain Week 2018. Supported by the Mexico City Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (CDMX-SFN)". She belongs to the National System of Researchers level 1 (SNI 1), has a PRODEP Profile, and is a member of the Academic Body of Cellular and Tissue Physiology of the Division of Natural Sciences and Engineering (DCNI).
