I am Assistant Professor ('Prof. Auxiliar com Agregação') at Porto University Medical School (FMUP), founder of MEDIDA, Lda and Head of the Allergy Units of CUF Porto Instituto and Hospital. Also, I am a researcher at Center for Health Technologies and Services Research (CINTESIS) [FCT, SAU-753], member of the Health Technologies Assessment Committee of INFARMED (Portuguese Medicines Agency) and Vice-President of the Portuguese Society of Allergology and Clinical Immunology. I was co-director of the Harvard Medical School Portugal Program in 2011-12.
My main research interests are Patient-centered innovation, mobile Health, Patient-Reported Outcomes and health technologies assessment and implementation.
My main clinical interests, in both children and adults, are Asthma and Rhinitis, Lung function and Airways Inflammation, Urticaria and Anaphylaxis (to food and drugs).
I am the coordinator of two courses at the Ph.D. program on Clinical and Health Services Research (FMUP) - Health Services Research Course and of Intervention studies - clinical trials course.
I co-authored over 250 publications, and have >1300 citations of papers indexed by ISI WOS with an h-index of 21. I have been involved in >25 research projects, 8 as Principal Investigator e.g. Control and Burden of Asthma and Rhinitis (funded by FCT, PTDC/SAU-SAP/119192/2010 and National Scientific Societies), and Chronic diseases of the airways - contents and tools for productive interactions between empowered patients and proactive professionals (funded by FCT, HMSP-IDSIM/SIM/0018/2009) or the CARAT project - Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Questionnaire (www.caratnetwork.org).
