Biography

Education, Training, and Professional Experience: Hiroshi Yamazaki is a Professor of Laboratory of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics in Showa Pharmaceutical University, Tokyo, Japan since 2005. After receiving his BS and MS degrees from Gifu Pharmaceutical University and PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Osaka University in Japan, he trained as a post-doctoral fellow at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN, USA in 1994. He was recruited as an Associate Professor of Kanazawa University from Osaka Prefectural Institute of Public Health in 1998 and moved to a post as Associate Professor of Hokkaido University Graduate School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 2001. Publications: Professor Yamazaki’s research has focused on polymorphic cytochrome P450 and flavin-containing monooxygenase, which are major catalysts involved in drug metabolism in toxicology and pharmacology in humans. He has authored over 360 publications (http://www.researcherid.com/rid/A-6081-2011) and is recognized as a ‘Highly Cited Researcher’ in Pharmacology 2001 by Thomson Reuters. He was named a JSSX Fellow (2008). Society Memberships: Professor Yamazaki has been actively involved in professional organizations for several decades: Board Member of JSSX (2000-), Associate Editor (Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK), 2006-2009), Council member (2010-2017), Editor-in-Chief of DMPK (2014-2017), and President-elect (2016-2017). He served as a Councilor of ISSX from 2011 – 2014. Professor Yamazaki also serves as an Editorial Advisory Board member for Biochem. Pharmacol., Brit. J. Clin. Pharmacol., and Chem. Res. Toxicol. Professor Yamazaki is on the Meeting Organizing Committee for 19th North American ISSX/29th JSSX Meeting 2014 and is the leading organizer of 19th International Conference on Cytochrome P450, in Tokyo, Japan, 2015.
