Biography
Dr. Iakovides is a post-doctoral researcher at the Nireas International Water Research Center (Nireas-IWRC), of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Cyprus. He is a chemical engineer in the background and he graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Patras in 2012. He also obtained his M.Sc. in “Energy and Environment” from the same department in October of 2015 with a grade of 9.05 out of 10. He received my Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University of Cyprus in September 2022 and during his Ph.D. he served as an early-stage researcher in the ANSWER project (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2015/675530) at Nireas-IWRC enriching my expertise and scientific acumen.
His research interest focus on the (i) development, application and optimization of advanced wastewater treatment processes for the removal of contaminants of emerging concerns in urban wastewater, (ii) assessment of the efficiency of the advanced wastewater treatment processes to remove antibiotic resistance determinants, as well as toxicity, (iii) evaluation of the accumulation of chemical and biological contaminants in soil irrigated by reclaimed water and their subsequent uptake by selected crops (i.e., cucumbers and lettuce) under real agricultural field conditions and (v) the development/application of wastewater-based epidemiology protocols and techniques in urban wastewater.
Teaching experience in the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, designing and delivering theoretical and practical sessions.
