Biography

Shemunyenge Taleiko Hamukwaya is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her research interest includes mathematics learning difficulties, language and communication in mathematics education. Hamukwaya has a strong background as both a primary and secondary mathematics teacher and has experience in teaching and supervising pre-service teachers. As a member of the Wits Maths Connect team, she is actively involved in projects such as Base-Ten Thinking, Mental Starters Assessment, and Language and Mathematics in the Early Grades. Her work encompasses research and teacher development programs aimed at improving teacher education and enhancing mathematics teaching.
