Biography

Dr Shian Yin is a tutor (lecturer/module lead) in Health and Social Care at Coventry University Group. Shian holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Nottingham, a Master’s in Social Work from China Youth University for Political Studies, and a Master’s in Business Management from the University of Zurich. His doctoral research explored the transition to adulthood for young people with care experience in China.

Shian's research interests centre on the lived experiences of adults who spent time in out-of-home care during childhood. He is particularly interested in care and leaving care processes, child protection and welfare, and the intersections between child and adult social care. His work adopts a life course perspective to explore resilience, youth agency, and voice, with a focus on understanding how early care experiences shape later life outcomes.
