Biography
Professor Ram Lakhan Singh is presently holding the position of Professor of Biochemistry at Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, UP. He has shaped Nilamber-Pitamber University, Medininagar, a state University of Jharkhand, as its Vice-Chancellor for a tenure of 3 years (02 June 2020 to 01 June 2023. He has been on the Board of Management of Madan Mohan Malviya University of Technology, Gorakhpur and Member of Executive Council of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi for two tenures of 2 years each. Professor Singh also held positions of Head, Departments of Biochemistry and Environmental Science; Coordinator of Biotechnology Programme; Dean, Faculty of Science; Dean, Students’ Welfare and Director, Institute of Engineering & Technology at Dr. Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, UP. He has 36 years of experience as teacher and academic administrator, and 44 years as a researcher. He earned his Master’s degree from University of Lucknow in 1980 and PhD in 1987 from CSIR-Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow, India. His area of research is environmental biochemistry & biotechnology and nutraceutical biochemistry. His specific interest includes 1) Bioremediation of textile mill effluents; 2) Nutraceutical/antioxidant properties of fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants; 3) Use of phytochemicals for remediation of environmental pollution related health issues; and 4) Assessment of Indian Ayurvedic formulations for their antioxidant/nutraceutical properties. Professor Singh published 93 research papers in journals of international repute. He has written 21 book chapters and edited 11 books published by Springer, CRC and Elsevier. Professor Singh guided 26 students for their Ph.D. degrees and several M.Sc. students for dissertation. He has been invited as editorial board member of several International journals. He is office bearer and life member of several learned societies. Professor Singh delivered a number of invited/expert talks and popular lectures related to nutraceuticals and environmental problems on various National and International fora. He has been honored as Best Teacher by International Association of Lions Clubs in 1999 and has also been awarded IUTOX Senior Fellowship by International Union of Toxicology at Montreal, Canada in 2007. He has been conferred with ‘Shikshak Shree Samman’ by Government of Uttar Pradesh in 2012. Professor Singh has been admitted to the Fellowships of the Society of Toxicology, India in 2011 and Academy of Environmental Biology, India in 2015. He has been conferred Lifetime Achievement Award by Society of Life Sciences, India in 2018 and by Astha Foundation in 2022.
