Biography
Dr Megan McPherson is a practising artist, educational researcher and has taught in the university art studio since 1996. Megan’s overarching research emphasis is the engagement in social and cultural production practices. She publishes in the areas of academic identity, social media use, Indigenous knowledges and pedagogies, and student success in the creative arts. She explores her focus in the intersections of pedagogical and material engagements in artistic, social and cultural productions using ethnographic, sociological, and creative practice methodologies to explore identity, subjectivities, affect and agency.
Megan's PhD thesis, Subjectivity, agency and affect in the undergraduate university art studio crit, studies how lecturers and students gather and assemble knowledge in the pedagogical embodied relations of the studio.
Megan is currently an academic at the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural Development and has been the coordinator of the Research Unit for Indigenous Arts and Culture (RUIAC) in 2019-2020. Her research work in the university has included a number of studies that have investigated peer learning and peer assessment in the creative industries, e-learning approaches in the university studio, professional development for teaching in new generation learning spaces and creative practice research and ethics. Megan is currently working on a number of research projects that are investigating subjectivities and creative practices.
