Biography

Over the past 15 years I have studied the sociology of disasters in South America and recently co-edited a free e-book entitled Reduction of Vulnerability to Disasters: From Knowledge to Action (https://www.preventionweb.net/publications/view/56269). Currently, I am researcher at Cemaden (Brazilian Early Warning Center) and Professor at the Doctorate Program on Earth System Science at the National Institute for Space Research (CCST/INPE). Since 2018, I am member of the executive board of RC 39 at the International Sociological Association (ISA) and member of the Editorial Boards of the journals Disaster Prevention and Management and Environmental Hazards.
