Biography
Silvia Montero-Martínez holds a BA in English Studies, a Master’s Degrer in Specialized Translation, doctoral studies in Translation and a Ph.D in Spanish Linguistics. Such education is the germ of her current research activity. Specifically, her research focuses on Terminology and Specialized Phraseology, Translation and Interpretation, and Corpus Linguistics. Her works regarding these issues are published in prestigious international and national journals; books, book chapters, and international and national proceedings. She’s also been a member of several research projects with public funding (7).
Her contributions have been made, mainly, in the field of specialized phraseology and its representation in multilingual knowledge bases. Within the framework of renowned research projects, led by Dr. Faber, such as ONCOTERM (Bilingual system of information and cancer resources), PuertoTerm (Coastal Engineering: knowledge structure and generation of terminological resources), MarcoCosta (Multilingual knowledge frames in the integrated management of coastal areas) EcoSystem (Single information space for frame-based environmental data and thesaurus), she has published papers in journals such as Meta, Terminology, Perspectives: Studies in Translatology, Journal of Pragmatics, BABEL, and the Yearbook of Phraseology. All of them have contributed to the so-called Frame-Based Terminology (FBT), a new cognitive approach to the study of specialized language units. Recently, she has published two book chapters in A Cognitive Linguistics View of Terminology and Specialized Language (Faber 2012), a monograph on FBT.
She has taught doctoral courses such as Specialized Phraseology and Expert Systems, at the University of Valladolid. Currently, she teaches Terminology and Translation Technologies to undergraduate students at the Faculty of Translation and Interpretation (University of Granada), as well as Terminology, and Translation Tools and Resources to graduate students within the Masters in Professional Translation (University of Granada).
Finally, she also has a regular activity as a freelance translator and terminologist.
