Value Orientations, Authoritarian Predisposition, Political Voice, Political Representation, Democracy Beliefs, Social Tolerance

Biography

I am a quantitative researcher who takes a social-psychological perspective toward answering most social and political research questions. My research focuses broadly on issues relating to individual values and perceptions of voice and representation in cross-national perspective. This often places my research interests at the intersection of institutional and individual considerations. I am currently engaged in two lines of political-psychological research. One line of research looks at how political culture and social and political institutions impact individual value orientations (i.e., individual-level authoritarianism), and the effects such orientations have on how we understand democracy, our social and political identification, and our perspectives on how we should interact with those in and outside our social groups. My second strand of research investigates how various forms of political representation facilitate or inhibit perceptions of voice in the political system and trust in representatives and representative institutions.
