Biography

M Santos graduated in Applied Chemistry (Organic Chemistry) at the New University of Lisbon (1994-1999). After a 3-months stay at the University Paris-Sud XI (Orsay, France) to develop a project in the area of catalysis (grant financed by the European Union), M Santos started a PhD in the field of Organic Synthesis at the New University of Lisbon (2000-2004). From 2004 to 2006, she was post-doc at the Amat-Bosch’s research group (University of Barcelona, Spain). In 2006, she returned to Portugal to join the group of Rui Moreira at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon (FFUL) as a post-doctoral fellow.
In 2008, M Santos started her independent career at FFUL: “Science 2007 program” assistant researcher (2008-2013); “FCT Investigator program” assistant researcher (2013-2018); “CEEC individual program” principal researcher (2019-2020). Since 2021, M Santos is professor at the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medicines (DCFM) of the FFUL. In 2023, M Santos was promoted to associate professor. M Santos leads the Medicinal Organic Chemistry Group at the Research Institute for Medicines, and the ultimate goal of her research is the development of general synthetic methods and strategies, and their application to the synthesis of bioactive molecules.
