Biography

Mário J. G. C. Mendes is Assistant Professor at the Mechanical Engineering Department, Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL), Lisbon Polytechnic Institute, Portugal, and a member of CENTEC - Centre for Marine Technology and Ocean Engineering (Group of Marine Dynamics and Hydrodynamics). He got his PhD (2008) at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal, with the Thesis: “Multi-agent Approach to Fault Tolerant Control Systems”, the MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering (2001), on the area of Control Systems and the Engineering degree (5 years course, after BSc) in Mechanical Engineering (1998), the area has been Robotics and Automation, both degrees at the same Institute, IST. He has published work on his research interests: Control Systems for alternative/renewable energies and energetic efficiency, Digital factories, Multi-agent system approaches in Fault Tolerant Control systems, Safety - Fault Detection and Isolation Systems and SoftRobotics. He recently won the teacher award of the New Generation|15 by Siemens® with a proposal for industry 4.0. The New Generation award is an innovative ideas contest, designed for technical and higher education, to recognize young talents of national engineering.
