Biography
Diana Ferreira was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1985. She received the Masters in Medicine degree from the Medical Sciences Faculty, New University of Lisbon, Lisbon, in 2011. In 2011, she was a junior doctor at Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Ocidental. From 2013-2015 she was a resident in training (medical oncology) at the Portuguese Institute of Oncology, Lisbon, Portugal.
Since the beginning of her residency, she was interested in patients with chronic, life-limiting illnesses. From 2013-2015 she completed a Master Degree in palliative care (Catholic University of Portugal, Lisbon, Portugal). She moved to Australia in 2015 and initiated her research career in the field of palliative care. She completed her PhD (Flinders University, Australia) in 2021 (thesis title: Regular, low-dose, sustained-release oral morphine for chronic breathlessness – Building the evidence).
Diana is now a research fellow at the University of Wollongong, NSW, Australia. She continues to work to improve symptom management at the end of life.
