Biography

Consultant in Respiratory medicine & GIM, Honorary clinical lecturer Leeds Medical School, OSCE Examiner, ESREP Supervisor, Ex- member of SAG for OSA at BTS, faculty at RCPE Sleep & NIV course, Specialist Adviser to NICE for novel sleep diagnostics

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Current PI roles :
NIVOW – weaning from acute non invasive ventilation in Ex of COPD ( Academic)
TILIA – Tozarikimab in acute viral pneumonitis
EPiC HFT – Use of Nasal High Flow Therapy in patients recovering from Ex of COPD ( Academic)
ASPECT – Aspirin use in pneumonia ( Academic)
MIRANDA – Tozarikimab in COPD

Previous PIs & other research roles :
ARNASA – Astegolimab in COPD
RECOVERY Trial – Covid

OSA & driving simulator performance: I have been working on developing a driving simulator to assess fitness to drive in patients with OSA for last 12 yrs, only centre in the UK. I have published extensively & have presented at national & international meetings. My work has formed the basis for further research in the department & has contributed to the understanding of driving behaviour in OSA and has co-authored the recent BTS statement on driving and OSA.

HOT HMV trial: Recruited patients with COPD on LTOT with Type II respiratory failure for the multi-centre study on home oxygen with or without home mechanical ventilation.

Validating the English version of the Severe Respiratory Insufficiency Questionnaire : A multidimensional questionnaire developed specifically for assessing QoL in patients on long term home ventilation

Validation of a prediction equation for predicting long term compliance with CPAP. We applied a prediction equation for long term compliance with CPAP in a different population group & assessed its impact.

Ultrasound Guided Abrams’ needle biopsy in exudative pleural effusions : An observational prospective study looking at the diagnostic yield & complications of US guided pleural biopsy in patients found unfit for thoracoscopy.
