Biography

Mafalda Costa is a biomedical engineer who graduated in September 2016 at the University of Minho, with a master thesis entitled “Development of bioactive materials for dental implants using powder metallurgy”.
From October 2016 to September 2018 she was a fellow on UID/EEA/04436/2013 and PTDC/EMS-TEC/5422/2014 FCT projects and, from September 2018 till present she is an FCT PhD fellow (SFRH/BD/140191/2018) on CMEMS (Center for MicroElectromechanical Systems) – University of Minho. She is performing her PhD in mechanical engineering at CMEMS-University of Minho which is supervised by Prof. Georgina Miranda and Prof. Filipe Samuel Silva and is entitled “Multi-Functional Multi-Material Structures for Orthopedic Implants using Laser-Assisted Strategies”. Her PhD work focuses on the development of multi-material components by using an innovative additive manufacturing technology, Selective Laser Melting, to produce multi-functional implants.
